Procedure Instructions

After Surgery

  • Plan to rest at home for the rest of the day. Do not drive. Allow for 1-3 days off from work or school.

  • For the first 24 hours, eat only soft foods and clear liquids, such as soup, gelatin, or mashed potatoes. Avoid using a straw.

  • Do not consume alcohol or use tobacco products for at least a week after surgery.

  • Avoid mouth rinses containing alcohol.

  • You will receive a comprehensive list of post-surgery instructions to take home. These will be discussed with your caregiver, who can ask any questions at that time.

  • Ensure a responsible adult stays with you at home for 24 hours following the procedure.

  • If you develop symptoms such as a cold, sore throat, fever, upset stomach, or diarrhea before your surgery, please contact the office promptly at LH Dental at (562) 464-0555.

Before Surgery

  • Refrain from eating or drinking anything, including water, for at least 8 hours before your surgery. (If your doctor has advised you to take medication, you may do so with a small sip of water.)

  • Brush your teeth prior to your appointment, but avoid swallowing any water.

  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing, preferably with short sleeves or sleeves that can easily be rolled up past the elbow.

  • Do not wear fingernail polish, contact lenses, eye makeup, or lipstick.

  • A responsible adult (age 18 or older) must accompany you to your appointment, remain in the waiting room throughout the surgery, and drive you home afterward. Surgery cannot proceed without this arrangement.
